Association of Book Crafts                                      ABC is one of the foremost societies devoted to the craft of fine bookbinding, and bookcrafts, while also supporting  book art in New Zealand.

The ABC runs a range of bookbinding courses in Auckland.

Here is a summary of the courses.

No prerequisite for doing BookBinding1.=BB1

Ø  The prerequisite for doing BB2 is that the applicant is familiar with the content of BB1, which can be summarised as A general introduction to bookbinding: terminology, tools and materials, different styles of binding, structure of paper, grain, grammage, paper handling, and repair principles. Practical work is a pamphlet stitch booklet and 2 styles of corners.

Ø  The prerequisite for doing BB3 is that the applicant is familiar with the content of  BB2,  which can be summarised as An introduction to sewing an A5 144 page hard-covered conservation-style ruled journal. Paper, boards, thread, tyvek, buckram and patterned papers are provided. This structure is ideal as a journal for notes or drawings.
