Students will work as a team to produce a small batch of books. The goal of this workshop is to give participants an insight into the logic of batch production, with concepts such as economy of movement, efficient set-up and task sharing, the art of jig-making and much more. We will make a small run of 20 books; one for each student and 10 for the conference Saturday evening auction. This workshop will be valuable to any craftspeople wanting to become more efficient in their practice.
The Elbel Binding Click HERE for full details Click here to book this Workshop.
The Elbum binding was developed by Ben Elbel. It is a clever album structure which holds its pages by gripping them into a series of articulated narrow pockets. It is both a wonderful example of paper engineering and a great introduction to precision concertina folding. This workshop is suitable for beginners as well as those with some bookbinding experience.
The Tue-mouche Binding Click HERE for details Click here to book this Workshop.
The Tue-mouche binding was developed by Ben Elbel. This structure is an easy and economical form of bookbinding. The covers are constructed entirely from heavyweight paper, layered to create rigidity and strength, while the flexible spine allows the binding to open nearly flat without constraints. This class is suitable for beginners as well as those with some bookbinding experience. Students will be asked to bring a sewn book-block.
